Artavian Baroque was founded 18 years ago by John Marston, a general Practitioner in Barnstaple, Devon, with a special interest in music from the Baroque and Early Classical periods performed on original instruments.

He also founded and directs an associated chamber choir, The Artavian Singers, which participates with the instrumentalists in the larger works, as well as giving their own performances at other times.

Artavian Baroque present concerts throughout the year in and around the North Devon area ranging from intimate recitals in private houses, often followed by a meal, to large scale works in other local venues. They have also been associated with the annual North Devon Festival since its inception and they performed for the Two Moors Festival in October 2007.
We were honoured when Dame Emma Kirkby and Anthony Rooley agreed to be our patrons ten years ago.

The performers generously give their services for reduced fees and as a result we have, over the years, raised a good deal of money for mainly local charities such as Children's Hospice South West, Young Musicians Support, Macmillan, North Devon Hospice, Soundwaves South West music therapy, etc.
